OS X Crashes
Funny thing just happened. I clicked on an ftp url link in an email and OS X froze. No kernel panic, no spinning beach ball of doom, the mouse just froze completely and the keyboard wouldn’t accept input. I thought maybe my USB cord from the keyboard to the computer got yanked, but the clock stopped too (I have it set to display seconds for just this sort of thing). Weird. The only way to reboot the supposed “uncrashable” and fer-gosh-sakes multithreaded OS X was to yank the plug (figuratively. I have to hold the power button down for 5 seconds and that forces a restart). I thought this kind of thing wasn’t possible under X?

by the way, yesterday I rebuilt my permissions so I’m reasonable sure that’s not the problem.

Not so fast. I’m having an odd problem with ichat av, and I’m getting clock freezes most time I start an ichat av audio session, suddenly.
Sure, like you, the first couple of times, I figured a reboot was required. This is not true (at least in this situation). If I want for around 1 hour, everything comes back, all by itself, and everything is fine.
It seems like the window manager is deadlocked on something, either that or the kernel. If you, like me, hate rebooting….
(to be fair, an hour is a while to wait).
