INTELligence

Monday, March 22nd, 2004

In a long waited for admission of the megahertz myth, Intel today announced that they will be dropping the MHZ and GHZ labels from their chip names. They say that megahertz are no longer an accurate measure of chip speed.

“Intel rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. got rid of clock speed from its chip names two-and-a-half years ago, replacing it with another number that it said better signified the chip’s overall performance.”

Doubtless now PC users everywhere will start loudly proclaiming that megahertz no longer matter and it’s the architecture of the chip that’s really important.

In related news, Apple issued a press statement dated 2002 with only a single word: “duh”.
